This list has been compiled to aid species selection for revegetation projects.  It is not an exhaustive list but should be used as a guide.  Most of the species are available at community nurseries such as the Coolum Community Native Nursery and Florabunda Bushcare Nursery.

This list covers vegetation communities of rainforest, dry and wet scherophyll and wallum.

RAINFOREST

These sites have developed over a long period of time, usually on the better red and black basalt soils of the Blackall Range.  Some remnant stands of coastal rainforest occur on the alluvial creek flats of the coastal plains.  Species populations can be very diverse and they normally support a range of epiphytic plants.

DRY SCLEROPHYLL

This type of forest occurs in the uplands of the coastal area, comprising mainly of Eucalypt hardwood forest with a grass understorey.  This forest type consists mainly of Blackbutt, Tallowwood, Red Bloodwood and Ironbark species, and sits on the Landsborough sandstone formation, which is very old and eroded in many places.

WET SCLEROPHYLL

These forests occur mainly on the riparian zones and on creek flats and usually comprise an over storey of Eucalypt hardwood of Tallowwood, Rose Gum, Forest Red Gum and Brush Box.  The understorey is made up of a broad range of rainforest species, which is normally kept in check from spreading because of fire and soil moisture.

This classification is a combination of overstorey dry sclerophyll and understorey rainforest.  As a result the species list for rainforest is used.

WALLUM

‘Wallum’ is a general term applied to the coastal lowlands belt of Southern Queensland.  It includes a wide diversity of vegetation types ranging from treeless heath to wet sclerophyll forest.  Fire is a major factor in the environment of the Wallum and is responsible for much of the essential instability of the plant communities.
